Exercise Overview
Step ups are a compound lower-body exercise that targets the quadriceps, glutes, and hamstrings through a single-leg stepping motion. This movement improves balance, coordination, and functional leg strength while placing minimal stress on the joints.
How To Do It
1. Setup
Stand facing a sturdy box or bench. Place one foot firmly on top of the platform while keeping your torso upright.
2. Starting Position
Shift your weight onto the elevated foot and engage your core. The back foot should remain lightly on the ground.
3. Execution
Press through the heel of the elevated foot to step up onto the platform, bringing the trailing foot up to meet it.
4. Return
Step back down under control, leading with the same foot, and repeat before switching sides.
