Incline Bench Press

Exercise Overview

The incline bench press is a compound chest exercise that targets the upper portion of the chest by pressing the barbell on an inclined bench. This angle shifts emphasis toward the upper chest while still engaging the shoulders and triceps, making it a key movement for building balanced chest development.

How To Do It

1. Setup

Set the bench to a 30–45 degree incline. Lie back with feet planted firmly on the floor and grip the bar slightly wider than shoulder width.

2. Starting Position

Unrack the bar above your upper chest with arms extended. Keep your chest lifted and shoulder blades pulled back.

3. Execution

Lower the bar slowly toward the upper chest, maintaining control and keeping elbows slightly tucked.

4. Return

Press the bar upward in a smooth motion until arms are extended, stopping short of lockout to maintain chest tension.
